Covid-19 Effects on your Heart

If you have Heart Disease, such as Hypertension, Heart Failure, Coronary Disease and/or Irregular Heart Rhythm, you are more likely to have complications from the virus and more likely to die from it. But also, being infected with the Corona Virus (Covid-19) can itself cause some significant cardiac complications. May cause direct inflammations of the heart muscle, called Myocarditis, Heart failure, Myocardial infarction, Cardiac Arrhythmias, and Death.

Warning Signs of Underlying Problems

If you feel short of breath, having chest pain, irregular heartbeat, swollen legs, very dizzy or if you are feeling faint or passed out, you should see medical advice quickly.

The best way to stay healthy is to follow the recommendations of the experts: Social distancing, self-quarantine if you have been in contact with someone that was infected, or if you have mild symptoms. Take your medications regularly. Wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds at least, wear a mask if you have to go out, and avoid close contact with anyone (6 feet apart).

If you have any doubts or questions, you probably can contact your doctor and discuss over the phone what to do. Most offices now are offering “Tele-Health” consult (Telephone with Video conferencing).

If you have mild symptoms only, stay home. Avoid going to the Emergency Room, go to the Hospital only if you really need to.

Taking your meds regularly is very important.
